What do I need to do to become a tattoo artist?

I always thought about being a tattoo artist since I was in Jr. High School, but I decided to go into graphic design instead. I'm not having much luck in the g.d. field since I don't want to move away from the small town life, so I'm thinking about other options.

I'm really seriously considering being a tattoo artist again, but I have no idea where to start. I am a good tracer, and I can draw, but I'm just not sure what to do next.
